EYES ONLY FOR YOU
Last weekend my son David and his partner of nine years Jennie, got married. It was a wonderful, wonderful occasion and after a civil ceremony close to home, we all decamped to catch the evening ferry to Inisboffin Island, off the coast of Connemara.
THE GUESTS ARRIVE
About 30 of us made it on the Friday evening ferry and the remainder of the guests arrived on the Saturday morning ferry in a heavy sea-mist. By two-o-clock however the mist had cleared and the sun beamed down its blessings and its bounty on the wedding party and our guests.
BOFFIN BANDITOS
After the pictures and posing we had the wedding breakfast. Speeches were kept short and the craic was great.
GLORIA
About 9pm the DJ began his set and started with what only could be called 'dirge' songs. The dance floor remained deserted. I approached the DJ to ask what he was at, or what he was on? He explained to me that at weddings he normally starts off with waltz, and slow sets to suit the older guests. I replied that "I was the older guest and to get Gloria on as quick as possible."
'At first I was afraid, I was petrified' summed up the initial feelings but soon the dance floor filled up and we discoed into the night.
SPARKLES & SMILES
Taking a break at about 11pm for tea, sandwiches and rainbow wedding cake most of the quests headed out into the garden to groove with sparkles in their hands.
DEXY AT MIDNIGHT
At midnight the DJ started up his set again and there was only one song to get the party rolling once more:
Come on Eileen
and we did.....
THE MORNING AFTER
This is a picture of the Lego wedding couple model built by my grandson Leon to sit atop his parents wedding cake – the morning after! The music stopped and the last dancer was scraped off the floor about 5 am and after a hearty breakfast most guests left on the 1pm ferry to make it back to the mainland.
The day, the emotions, the joy, the beauty and the fantastic friendship shown by all made the day, a day that life was worth living for alone.
