Because of the rising cost of medical indemnity insurance in Ireland (the indemnity for this year is €98,000 p.a. ) today was my last day operating, after 24 years, as a gynaecological surgeon in the Bon Secours Hospital, Galway, Ireland and in eight weeks time my practice, after 32 years in the speciality closes for good. I have loved every minute of my professional life... no regrets, no what if's. And cake in my pocket for the road ahead!
